Trevon Diggs Signs 5-Year Extension Worth Over $100m With The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have secured one of their top players for the future as cornerback Trevon Diggs has signed a five-year extension worth up to $100 million. The deal was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, just before the start of training camp.

Diggs, who is entering the final season of his rookie deal, had an impressive first three seasons in the NFL, recording 17 interceptions and establishing himself as one of the top corners in the league. The 24-year-old’s new contract makes him the highest-paid defensive back in franchise history and the fourth-highest paid cornerback in the NFL in terms of total contract value.

The signing of Diggs is a significant move for the Cowboys as they look to build a strong defense for the future. Along with fellow cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who may join after the 2023-24 season, Diggs is expected to form one of the top cornerback duos in the NFL.

The Cowboys’ executive vice president, Stephen Jones, had expressed the franchise’s goal of getting at least one extension done before the start of training camp. With Diggs’ deal now sealed, negotiations with other players may continue throughout the season.

Other Cowboys Young Talents Remain In Conversations About Deals

While Diggs has secured his future with the Cowboys, negotiations with other young talents on the team are ongoing. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, running back Tony Pollard, offensive tackle Terence Steele, and others have yet to sign long-term deals.

Lamb, who was drafted by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, had a solid rookie season and is expected to be a key player for the team in the future. Pollard, who has been a backup to Ezekiel Elliott, has shown flashes of potential and could be in line for a bigger role in the offense. Steele, who started 14 games as a rookie last season, is seen as a promising young player on the offensive line.

The Cowboys have several other young talents on their roster who could be in line for extensions in the near future. With Diggs’ deal now done, negotiations with other players will likely continue throughout the season as the franchise looks to build a strong team for years to come.
